There's only one thing different about Barack Obama when it comes to being a Democratic presidential candidate. He's half African-American," Nader told the paper. "Whether that will make any difference, I don't know. I haven't heard him have a strong crackdown on economic exploitation in the ghettos. Payday loans, predatory lending, asbestos, lead. What's keeping him from doing that? Is it because he wants to talk white?"

Russ Feingold, talking Jewish as we all know he does, responds:

Oy vey! Dat vas not a kosher thing to say, what da man named Nader said. I am so upset wit this Nader dat I may have to go eat an entire box of Matzoh wit an egg cream. Oy!

Diane Feinstien, talking woman as she damn well should, defends Obama as well:

I know, from the bottom of my vagina to the tips of my breasts, that Barack Obama speaks from his heart and being a compassionate, soulful female I know full-well what a heart is.

If I wasn't here, in my kitchen, baking a cake and emotionally and compassionately raising children... I'd go confront Mr. Nader myself.

However, John McCain, talking in the tongue of old as geezerly people do, echoed Nadar's sentiments:

What? Huh? I can't hear you? Who? Barack who? I've never-- Oh, oh. BARACK! Yes, yes. I totally-- What was the question? GET OFF MY LAWN!!

But Tammy Baldwin and Barney Frank, talking gay as those people all do, rebuked Nader:

"No he didn't" Representative Frank cried out in a high pitched girly voice, while simultaneously snapping his fingers in a "Z". "What a BITCH!"
To which Ms. Baldwin simply growled and kicked Mr. Frank with her combat boots.

Barack Obama, finally owning up to his skin color as the honorable Mr. Nader suggested, finally broke his silence at the end of the day:

Shit motherfucker! Why whitey gotta played me like that?

Oh, and then, speaking in Harvard Educated, Future President, Senator Obama continued:

"Ralph Nader is trying to get attention. I think it's a shame because if you look at his legacy in terms of consumer protections, its an extraordinary one. He's someone . . . whose campaign hasn't gotten any traction. So what better way to get some traction than to make an inflammatory statement like the one that he made? It is what it is."

I can not stand it when people refer to a person's manner of speech as "talking white" or their ways as "acting white".

Black is not a monolith and we do not all think, act, talk, eat, pray, fuck, sing, dance, vote or manifest anger the exact same motherfucking way.

If a black person is running for office that does not automatically mean that she or he is going to make affirmative action, poverty and pay-day loan scams the foundation of their platform. For the record - black America is also complex and there are a lot of policy issues that impact the lives of a majority of black people, which include but are not limited to poverty, affirmative action and pay-day loan scams.

That isn't acting white...speeches about the shit are not examples of talking white...and this bitch is going to move past anger into some serious rage if one more motherfucker insults me and mine through the assertion that only white people discuss the economy, healthcare, the war and international diplomacy.

Ralph Nader ought to be ashamed of himself for high-jacking legitimate important policy issues and telling the American people that those are black issues.

He ought to be ashamed of himself for putting forth the notion that a black person isn't fully black if they don't act like he expects them to and society has instructed them to.

And he should have checked himself before he wrecked himself by jumping onto the `I can say this ig'nant, insulting and racially stereotyping bullshit because I've spent years channeling my white guilt into black people issues!' platform with Geraldine Ferarro and the rest of the I'm-not-a-bigot-I-just-play-one-on-t.v. crowd that lurks within all political parties.

THE FRONT - Nadar vehicle for AA critisism of BO (none / 0)

Did anyone see "The Front"? Woody Allen was handing in all these screen plays written by black-balled writers from the 50's and passing it off as his own.

Listening to Nadar deliver his Obama critique as clumsily as he did it occured to me that the critique probably came from one or many Afican Americans who would prefer not to criticize Obama publically. Take the race part out, which was wholly unnecessary, and you have a standard complaint made by AA's against typical Democratic nominees or presidents: They are not addressing the concerns of the AA community, but instead are taking our votes for granted.

AA's would have to be very brave to openly critique Obama. Tavis Smiley did and he and his family received death threats and he had to quit his radio show. So, Nadar would be a perfect vehicle for airing the grievances and applying slight pressure.

The "talking white" charge probably came from an AA advisor of Nadar's. It's not a new charge. There is nothing new under the sun.

Nadar didn't come up with his critisism of Obama on his own. He stole his whole line of attack or it was given to him.

The critisism that Nadar used against Obama is the same stuff some AA's have leveled against mostly white Democrats with the exception of the "he's talking white". That is a line of attack against black Democrats from other AA's.

I don't know if he just borrowed the line of attack from the past or if someone gave it to him this time. But,the attacks are nothing new and they didn't originate from Nadar himself.

If you don't think Nadar is getting any input from any AA's you are naive. Even among the black supporters Obama has there are some who would like him to address issues of poverty and health in the black community and think a little pressure is a good thing.

Obama's black and should be talking about black things. Of course he should, because as a black guy he grew up in the ghettos where all the black people live and feels personal affinity with all his brothers and sisters.

Just like my own affinity with my white brothers and sisters suffering under poor service at the Polo Club. As a white person, I of course have my Polo Club membership and grew up with Buffy and Smittens and so I empathize with their needs.

And Nader of course doesn't come up with his own ideas, he leans on his massive focus group leaders to help him craft his message. We all know Nader is a toned and polished professional politician and drags around ranked legions of advisers in pinstripes to tell him what to say. They're always eating all the cavier at the Polo Club before I get any, due to the poor service.

You are making a strawman argument to me. I am not the one who made the comment, Nader did. I'm not defending it I'm just explaining its origin.

I don't think all blacks talk the same or think alike so why suggest that I did?

I only pointed out where Nader's line of attack came from.

Nader's mistake was to bring up race at all. He could have made his point without chiding Obama for "talking white." His other points are valid and the criticism could have also been leveled at Hillary, who I supported. The Dem's do need to push for more changes in the inner cities and rural areas.

Every argument I have seen you make is in some way supporting the idea of Sen. Obama's deficiencies. That is the definition of Trolling for Concern on a forum dedicated to furthering Democratic and Progressive candidates and principles, when said Sen. Obama is in the process of running for the office of President of the United States.

Actually I found it very disappointing that he does not discuss issues that are somewhat outside the mainstream. I am dismayed when he talks about black fathers should step up but will say nothing about police misconduct such as what happened in the Sean Bell killing by the NYPD. Sean Bell was an American too.

But the reality is he probably would not appeal to many of his supporters if he did.

Hmmm---Obama puts forward a real critiques of American foreign policy, gets slammed for it by Hillary & McCain, and you're saying he "doesn't discuss issues outside the mainstream." I mean, I find his ideas pretty mainstream, but the media and his opponents sure did not.

It sounds like there are certain issues that you feel should be discussed by him, they're not being discussed, and you feel that's wrong.

I for one feel politicians should talk about what matters to them. So if you're a female politician, but you're not as interested in equal pay as you are say civil liberties, focus on that. The idea that one's demographic determines one's issues I see as wrong, and I don't think a politician should try to talk about one thing if they feel more passion for something else.

In addition, I do imagine that you're right that by talking about police brutality, Obama might well drive away some supporters (because he would sound more radical) and with them any realistic chance at election. Since I don't want that to happen---and since Presidents sure can't do much about local law enforcement brutality issues---I think its a wise choice to talk about the issues that the President can affect and are important, and not ones that are not really affected by the President and would hurt his electoral chances, even if those issues are important as well.
